Michelle joined HoustonKemp as an Analyst in 2026 after completing a Bachelor of Economics (Honours) at the University of Sydney. She previously interned with the team over the 2025/26 summer, working on quantitative and qualitative projects across water regulation, energy markets and environmental policy, including expenditure reviews and cost modelling. Her undergraduate background in economics and accounting supported this work, particularly the cost and expenditure modelling. This experience strengthened Michelle’s interest in using econometric analysis to create meaningful value for government and industry clients.

Michelle’s honours thesis, which examined the liquidity channel of fiscal policy in Australia, gives her a strong grounding in advanced econometric techniques, including applying local projections to a wide macroeconomic dataset to study government spending shocks. Working extensively with the HILDA dataset to unpack the household-level drivers of these aggregate responses also sharpened her ability to translate detailed microdata into practical insights on policy and regulatory problems.
